First determine your chopping block dimensions. We wanted a 24 inch by 24 inch chopping block which was at least 3 inches thick. Buy, borrow or steal some hardwood. The thicker the better. On this project we used walnut and maple. A local wood vendor had many sizes of wood for our selection. Stay away from oak, it is too porous.
